Early Training
The progress your puppy makes during your training sessions is totally dependent on your teaching methods. Once you find the right technique, your Shih Tzu will respond eagerly and joyfully. In developing your training method, there are certain dos and don'ts which must be followed. Each time you hold a training session with your Shih Tzu, adhere to the following rules, which I like to refer to as the "Ten Commandments" of dog training.

1. Remove all distractions.

2. Be authoritative.

3. Be consistent.

4. One lesson per session.

5. Master a lesson before moving to the next.

6. Do not train in a bad mood.

7. Praise your dog.

8. Do not stoop to bribery.

9. Punish disobedience immediately.

10. Begin working with your puppy the day you bring it home.
